Argentina and Ecuador municipal programs boost women’s vocational training

In Ushuaia, Argentina, the municipal Women and Human Development Secretariat led by Verónica Maestro reported that training workshops in traditionally male trades – including boiler installation, interior painting, flooring, dry‑wall construction, light mechanical work, driver’s licences and welding – are creating job opportunities and economic independence for women. Maestro said, "Los talleres forman parte de las políticas públicas impulsadas por la gestión del intendente Walter Vuoto" and noted that "Hay mucho interés de las mujeres en participar".

Meanwhile, the prefecture of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas in Ecuador inaugurated its fourth School of Women Leaders, offering monthly courses on health, rights, mobility, political participation and gender‑based violence. Vice‑prefect Carlos Landaheta and council member Jazmín Enríquez highlighted the initiative, with Enríquez stating, "Nosotras como mujeres somos el pilar fundamental para la sociedad". Participants travelled long distances to attend, emphasizing the demand for such empowerment spaces.
