Argentina and Guatemala advance environmental and sustainability initiatives

In Argentina, the 13th edition of the ‘Hoteles más Verdes’ (Greener Hotels) program recently awarded certifications to various hospitality establishments. During the Hotelga 2026 event, Secretary of Tourism, Environment, and Sports Daniel Scioli presented Bronze, Silver, and Gold plaques to hotels incorporating sustainability criteria into their management and value chains. The initiative aims to promote environmental care and responsible destination development, with participation noted from Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

Meanwhile, Guatemala has launched a process to update its national Forestry Policy, which has remained unchanged since 1999. Coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environment, the National Institute of Forests (INAB), and the National Council of Protected Areas (CONAP), the initiative seeks to address modern environmental challenges and forest degradation. With forest cover accounting for approximately 33% of Guatemala's territory, the new framework aims to position the forestry sector as an economic and environmental driver through regional consultations in areas such as Petén and Cobán.
