Argentina and Peru approve teacher salary hikes

In Argentina's San Juan province, the government presented a proposal to raise teacher wages by a total of 6 % through December, split into three 2 % increments in August, October and December, and to complete a pending 5 % increase for certain grades. The offer, discussed with the teachers' union AMET, also raised concerns about funding for technical schools and the practice of banks withholding salaries, with unions seeking a response before the winter break.

In Peru, the national government transferred 79,038,236 soles to regional authorities to finance salary increases for teachers promoted under the 2025 public competition. The move, formalised by Supreme Decree 123‑2026‑EF and signed by President José María Balcázar, Finance Minister Rodolfo Acuña and Education Minister María Cuadros, aims to strengthen the public teaching career and improve working conditions.
