Argentina and Peru implement new fishing regulations and quotas

In Argentina, the National Directorate of Fisheries Coordination and Supervision has ordered the closure of Subareas 7 and 15 off the coast of Santa Cruz. This measure, effective August 31, 2026, targets shrimp fishing areas to protect hake populations. Scientific monitoring by INIDEP revealed a high proportion of juvenile hake and a hake-to-shrimp catch ratio exceeding the 0.20 regulatory limit.

In Peru, the Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) has established new fishing quotas for 2026 to ensure sustainable resource management. For anchoveta intended for direct human consumption, a total catch limit of 75,000 tons has been set for artisanal and small-scale activities along the Peruvian coast.

Additionally, quotas have been set for the period between September 1 and December 31, 2026, for jack mackerel (jurel) and mackerel (caballa). The limits are set at 60,770 tons for jack mackerel and 41,333 tons for mackerel, applicable to vessels with a hold capacity of up to 32.6 m³. These regulations are based on scientific data from the Institute of the Sea of Peru (IMARPE).
