Argentina and Venezuela launch initiatives to address missing persons

In Argentina, authorities and the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team (EAAF) have launched the campaign ‘The earth speaks. Your blood can give them a name.’ The initiative encourages families of people disappeared between 1974 and 1983 to provide genetic samples to aid in new identifications. This follows findings at Loma del Torito, where remains of 30 individuals disappeared during the state terrorism era have already been identified.

In Venezuela, Ombudsman Egleé González has pledged to review cases of missing persons, particularly in border regions near Colombia, as well as in Mexico, Peru, and Chile. Following a meeting with the collective ‘Esperanza de Madre,’ the Ombudsman’s office committed to investigating individual cases and coordinating with national and international agencies to address concerns regarding forced labor and exploitation in border zones.
