Argentina arrests woman for online grooming and sentences youths for internet‑sale murder

Police in the province of Buenos Aires detained a 33‑year‑old woman after she used a gaming platform to pose as a teenager and sent explicit photos to a 14‑year‑old boy. Detectives from the Federal Police’s cyber‑crimes unit linked the case to Operation Bonaerense Protección de las Infancias VII, which has conducted more than a hundred raids across the province to combat child sexual abuse online.

In a separate case, a court in Avellaneda sentenced two young men to life imprisonment for the 2024 murder of 55‑year‑old electrician Adrián Pablo Carrea. Carrea had arranged to buy a motorcycle through Facebook Marketplace; he and his son were ambushed, robbed of US$3,000 and shot, resulting in Carrea’s death. One co‑accused was acquitted.

Both incidents illustrate Argentine authorities’ crackdown on crimes facilitated by the internet, ranging from sexual grooming of minors to violent robberies staged through online sales platforms.
