Mexico Chamber of Deputies sees heated clash over misogyny claims

A legislative session in the Mexican Chamber of Deputies escalated into a heated confrontation between members of the ruling Morena party and opposition legislators from the PRI and PAN.

The conflict arose during the debate and subsequent approval of the Federal Rights Law. Opposition deputies accused Morena legislator Damaris Silva of using misogynistic and disrespectful language when addressing her colleagues. In response, other Morena legislators defended Silva and criticized the opposition as being ‘hypocritical’ and ‘cynical’.

Despite the intense verbal exchanges and calls for order, the fiscal reform measure passed with 339 votes in favor, 112 against, and one abstention.
