Argentina automotive industry faces production decline and new credit measures
Argentina's automotive industry is experiencing a significant downturn, with production falling 14.4% year-on-year in October. According to ADEFA, total production from January to October reached 360,444 units, a 15.5% decrease compared to the same period in 2025. The decline is particularly sharp in the passenger car segment, which saw a 23.6% drop in October.
In response to the manufacturing slump, Banco Nación has launched a special credit plan to stimulate the purchase of new and used vehicles. The initiative offers a preferential fixed interest rate of 25% TNA for customers who receive their salary or pension through the bank, hold a BNA credit card, and use the bank's insurance. For other applicants, the general rate is 46% TNA. The plan allows for financing up to 100% of the vehicle's value for cars up to 10 years old.
Additionally, a new Financial Competitiveness Law is being considered in Congress. The proposed legislation aims to digitalize vehicle pledges, simplify the judicial recovery process for unpaid loans, and allow for multiple successive credits on a single vehicle.
