Argentina automotive market faces decline as pick-ups lead sales
The Argentine automotive market is experiencing a significant downturn. New vehicle registrations fell by 19.1% in August compared to the previous year, bringing the total for January through August to 385,091 units, a 13.3% decrease from 2025.
Pick-up trucks have emerged as a resilient segment within this crisis, reflecting the strength of the agricultural sector. The Toyota Hilux led monthly sales with 2,616 units and maintains the highest year-to-date total with 21,116 registrations, showing only a 4.4% cumulative decline.
The used car market also faced contraction, with sales dropping 7.33% in August compared to August 2025. According to the Cámara del Comercio Automotor (CCA), buyers are becoming increasingly cautious due to economic conditions and financing costs, leading to higher inventory levels in dealerships and a more difficult sales environment.
