Spanish basketball leagues hold first joint season presentation
For the first time in decades, the Liga Endesa and the Liga Femenina Endesa held a joint presentation for the 2026-27 season at the Endesa headquarters in Madrid. The event aimed to unify the two major Spanish basketball competitions to strengthen the sport through a shared strategy while maintaining their individual identities.
Key highlights included the presence of four players who recently won bronze at the World Cup in Berlin: Iyana Martín, Mariona Ortiz, Helena Pueyo, and Alba Torrens. The presentation also noted the inclusion of Leyma Coruña and Monbus Obradoiro as newly promoted teams, marking a historic moment where three Galician teams will compete in the top tier simultaneously.
Regarding broadcasting, Movistar Plus has secured the rights to televise more than 250 matches of the women's league, a move intended to boost the visibility of female basketball. Additionally, the league announced the implementation of an ‘instant replay’ system to allow referees to correct errors upon coach request.
