Argentina Pumas defeat Wales 35-21 in Nations Championship

Argentina’s national rugby team, the Pumas, secured a 35‑21 victory over Wales in the second round of the 2026 Nations Championship at the Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario. The win marked Argentina’s first tournament triumph after an opening loss to Scotland and gave them momentum ahead of a scheduled test against England.

The Pumas scored five tries – two by number eight Joaquín Oviedo, and one each from centre Justo Piccardo, flanker Marcos Kremer and full‑back Santiago Carreras – while fly‑half Tomás Albornoz converted all five attempts perfectly. Wales replied with tries from captain Dewi Lake, prop Rhys Carre and replacement prop Ben Warren; Sam Costelow added all three conversions.

Coach Felipe Contepomi highlighted the team’s improved cohesion and defensive work, and the match featured Guido Petti’s 100th test cap for Argentina. Despite the loss, Wales remains in contention and will travel to South Africa for their next fixture. The result left Argentina seventh in the World Rugby rankings, unchanged from before the match.
