Argentina begins MMUV 2026 housing and commerce mapping

Argentine provinces La Rioja and Salta have launched field operations for the 2026 Urban Master Sample of Housing (MMUV). This initiative, coordinated with the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC), aims to update cartography and create an exhaustive list of residential dwellings and commercial premises.

The data collected will serve as the sampling framework for household surveys for the next decade, measuring key sociodemographic indicators such as labor markets and living conditions. In La Rioja, the survey covers the provincial capital and the departments of Chilecito, Chepes, and Chamical, with an estimated execution period of four to five months. The process is strictly visual and digital, involving accredited observers who record new neighborhoods, street names, and business openings or closures without interviewing residents.

In Salta, the operation covers 18 localities, including Salta Capital, Tartagal, and Cafayate. The fieldwork is scheduled to take place through December 2026, providing a randomized selection base that will be utilized for nearly ten years.
