Argentina blocks illegal World Cup 2026 streaming sites in ‘Tarjeta Roja’ operation
Argentina’s communications regulator ENACOM and the National Internet Domain Registry (NIC Argentina) shut down 14 websites that were offering free streams of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including “Roja Directa”, “Stella TV”, “Tele Latino” and “Fútbol Libre”. The sites were taken offline after a joint investigation by the Specialized Fiscal Unit for Cybercrime (UFECI) under prosecutor Horacio Azzolin and three judicial offices, following complaints from satellite providers Personal Flow and DirecTV. Court orders were executed by judges José Miguel Guerrero, Javier Sánchez Sarmiento and Carlos Manuel Bruniard, resulting in the sites being blocked or their domain registrations cancelled.
The crackdown is part of the multilateral “Operación Tarjeta Roja”, coordinated with the U.S. Department of Justice and Colombia’s cyber‑crime unit. The initiative, backed by the Latin‑American Digital Piracy Working Group, aims to curb digital piracy during the World Cup across the region.
