Argentina breast cancer screening rates show significant gaps

A new report, the Argentina Breast Health Awareness Index 2026, reveals that breast cancer remains the leading cause of oncological death among women in Argentina. Although early detection allows for a cure rate exceeding 90%, significant barriers prevent timely diagnosis.

While 70% of women surveyed identify gynecological consultations as a vital health habit, only 51% perform them regularly. Nearly half of the population maintains a reactive relationship with the healthcare system: 23% only seek medical attention when experiencing pain or visible discomfort, 16% wait more than two years between visits, and 10% have never attended a consultation.

Regarding mammography, which is essential for detecting non-palpable lesions, 84% of women over 40 have had at least one in their lifetime. However, 41% of this demographic fails to maintain the recommended frequency of screenings, often due to a lack of established habits, postponing exams for more than two years, or only seeking tests when symptoms appear.
