Argentina builds double‑dollar shield to secure 2027 financing

The Argentine Treasury has assembled financing sources totaling US$ 22.9 billion for the current year, surpassing the US$ 19.2 billion dollar‑need forecast and leaving a US$ 3.7 billion buffer for 2027. The strategy, described as a “double shield,” combines a financial wall that guarantees the dollars required to meet debt obligations and a currency wall aimed at accumulating reserves and restoring capacity to counter a potential dollar run‑off.

Key components include US$ 6.7 billion of dollar purchases from the Central Bank, which may be discontinued in the second half of the year, potentially easing the current monetary tightening. The plan also foresees US$ 6 billion of local‑currency debt issuance (about US$ 4 billion already placed) and a new dollar‑denominated bond offering up to US$ 2 billion, intended to capture private‑sector dollar holdings left after the July debt repayment.
