Argentina celebrates Forestry Engineering Day

Argentina celebrated Forestry Engineering Day, highlighting the profession's role in sustainable development and the conservation of natural resources. The National University of Santiago del Estero (UNSE) held a commemorative event as part of the second national Forestry Sciences Week, themed “Forests that sustain communities, science, territory and culture.”

The event honored retiring faculty and staff, as well as students with outstanding academic performance. Historical milestones were noted, including the 1952 establishment of the Forestry Engineering Institute in Santiago del Estero. Significant historical figures mentioned include Aníbal Dalmacio Costa and Héctor Rodolfo Reuter, the first forestry engineers to graduate from an Argentine university in 1963, and Olga Marsiglia, who became the first woman in Latin America to earn a forestry engineering degree that same year.

Reflections on the profession emphasized a long-term commitment to forest management, regional development, and the scientific study of plantations and natural forests to ensure environmental safeguards for the future.
