Argentina Central Bank faces raid request over gold derivative losses

Lawyer Gregorio Dalbón has expanded a criminal complaint against Argentina's Economy Minister Luis Caputo and Central Bank (BCRA) President Santiago Bausili regarding gold derivative operations conducted in 2025. The legal action also includes BCRA officials Juan Ernesto Curutchet and Nicolás Marcelo Ferro.

Following an audit by the Auditoría General de la Nación (AGN), which reported losses of USD 1,023 million from these transactions, Dalbón has requested a raid on the Central Bank. The request seeks the seizure of institutional servers and email accounts to investigate the selection of counterparties and potential improper commissions.

A central focus of the investigation is the alleged role of Deutsche Bank as a counterparty. The complaint suggests that the bank may have benefited from contracts where the right to purchase gold was sold at approximately USD 3,000 per ounce, while international market prices exceeded USD 4,000. The investigation aims to determine if these maneuvers constituted fraudulent administration, abuse of authority, or criminal association.
