Chile-Argentina border passes manage transit amid weather disruptions

Authorities in Chile and Argentina are managing the reopening of several international mountain passes following severe weather. At the Paso Internacional Jama, a controlled opening has begun using convoys of 100 trucks to alleviate congestion, though full access remains restricted due to unstable weather conditions, including snow and whiteout winds.

Similarly, the Pino Hachado pass remains closed due to snow and ice accumulation, leaving approximately 100 trucks waiting in Las Lajas. Officials are monitoring weather improvements to determine when transit can resume safely.

In the Coquimbo Region, preparations are underway for the 2026-2027 season at the Agua Negra International Pass. While work continues to repair Route 41-CH following a recent frontal system, officials are coordinating operational improvements and security measures to prepare for future high-volume tourist and commercial activity.
