Argentina-Chile border passes face closures due to severe weather

Several international border crossings between Argentina and Chile remain closed due to severe weather conditions in the Andean mountain range.

The Cristo Redentor International Pass, which has been closed for nearly a month, may potentially reopen on Monday, August 17. While weather conditions have improved on the Chilean side, officials noted that challenges such as ice, snowstorms, and road transitability persist. The primary obstacle remains on the Argentine side, where new weather fronts may hinder clearing operations.

Simultaneously, the Jama International Pass remains closed to all traffic due to heavy snow, wind, and frozen road surfaces on Route CH-27. Authorities in Jujuy, Argentina, indicated that the closure could extend until August 16 depending on weather evolution. Currently, 154 trucks are stationed in the area due to the restriction. Officials advise travelers and transport companies to monitor official channels for updates on safe circulation.
