Argentina Circular Economy Awards recognize San Juan and Toyota

The 4th edition of the National Argentina Circular Economy Award has recognized two distinct projects for their contributions to sustainability and resource management.

The Municipality of the City of San Juan received an award for its “Circular Economy and Inclusion” program. This initiative connects the public sector with private companies and institutions to transform waste materials—such as wood, fabric, leather, glass, and metal—into products with social and economic value. The program specifically works with institutions that employ people with disabilities, fostering job inclusion through activities like carpentry, sewing, and ceramics.

In the “Large Companies – Sustainable Mobility” category, Toyota Argentina was honored for a pilot project focused on the recovery and reconditioning of hybrid vehicle batteries. Developed in collaboration with Veolia and with technical support from the National Institute of Industrial Technology (INTI) and CESVI Argentina, the project aims to establish local methodologies for diagnosing and repurposing nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries. The goal is to extend the lifespan of battery components rather than treating them as waste.
