Argentina citrus exports rise 18% amid record lemon harvests

The global citrus market is experiencing significant shifts due to increased production from third-party countries. In Argentina, the citrus sector saw record growth in 2025, with fresh citrus harvests reaching 3.76 million tons, up from 3.45 million tons in 2024. This increase was largely driven by a 29% rise in lemon production, totaling 2.21 million tons, which accounts for 22% of the global lemon harvest.

Argentina's fresh citrus exports grew by 18% to 321,046 tons. The United States emerged as a major destination, serving as the second-largest overall citrus export market for Argentina and the primary market for its lemons, receiving 49,242 tons. This surge in imports has prompted the California Citrus Mutual to meet with officials in Washington, D.C., to discuss the economic impact on California lemon producers.

In Europe, industry leaders note that citrus production from southern hemisphere countries continues to gain market share, creating a continuous year-round supply that challenges traditional seasonal cycles.
