Argentina clarifies Tarjeta Alimentar benefit termination rules

Argentina's Ministry of Human Capital has outlined the conditions under which the Tarjeta Alimentar benefit is discontinued. The subsidy is automatically revoked if the recipient stops receiving the Universal Child Allowance (AUH) or Non-Contributory Pensions (PNC) due to a child reaching 18 years of age, excluding children with disabilities. Additionally, the benefit ends if the Pregnancy Allowance (AUE) concludes or if a family transitions from AUH to the SUAF system because a parent secures formal employment.

Discontinuations occur automatically following data cross-referencing between the Ministry and ANSES, a process that can take up to 90 days. In cases where the Pregnancy Allowance ends due to childbirth, the transition to AUH may also involve a delay of up to 90 days for automatic reactivation.

For October 2026, the Tarjeta Alimentar amounts are set at $72,250 for families with one child, $113,299 for two children, and $149,425 for households with three or more children. These payments are credited automatically alongside corresponding social security benefits.
