Argentina clinches bronze in men's basketball and silver in women's at 2026 FISU America Games

At the 2026 FISU America Games held in Lima, Peru, Argentina's university basketball squads achieved podium finishes. The men's team, coached by Juan Manuel Varas, captured the bronze medal after a 64‑57 victory over Chile in the third‑place match, rebounding from a semifinal loss to the Virgin Islands. The women's team, led by Laura Soledad González, earned silver after falling 80‑38 to the United States in the final.

The clubs and federations behind the success were highlighted, with Tomás de Rocamora publicly congratulating the coaches for guiding the squads to four wins each and a combined record of eight victories and two defeats. Guard Ignacio Copesky contributed notably to the men's bronze run, marking his second appearance at the Games.

These results underline the growing strength of Argentine university basketball and the collaborative effort of the Argentine University Sports Federation and the national basketball confederation in preparing the teams.
