Argentina honors Néstor Kirchner on 16th anniversary of death
Political leaders and organizations across Argentina held various tributes to mark the 16th anniversary of former President Néstor Kirchner's death. The former leader, who served as President from 2003 to 2007, passed away on October 27, 2010, in El Calafate due to a cardiovascular event.
In Lanús, an event organized by La Cámpora featured Deputy Máximo Kirchner as the keynote speaker. During his address, Máximo Kirchner drew comparisons between his father's administration and the current government under Javier Milei, noting that Argentina was entering a recession three years into the current term, whereas his father had overseen the cancellation of debt with the IMF. He also called for the political unity of Peronism and advocated for the freedom of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.
Other prominent figures, including Buenos Aires Governor Axel Kicillof and Formosa Governor Gildo Insfrán, issued messages emphasizing Kirchner's legacy of social justice and political resistance. The General Confederation of Labour (CGT) also honored his memory, highlighting his commitment to national industry and workers' rights.
