Argentina Congress advances proposal to modify Pierri Law

A proposal to modify Law 24.374, commonly known as the Pierri Law, has advanced in the Argentine Congress. After receiving approval from the Senate, the initiative has moved to the Chamber of Deputies for further legislative review.

Developed by the Professional Council of Surveyors of the Province of Buenos Aires (CPA), the project aims to update the current land regularization regime. Key proposed changes include replacing Article 1 to allow individuals who can prove peaceful, ostensible, and continuous possession through a lawful cause for ten years to access benefits. The project also introduces a mobile reference date to adapt to various territorial land situations and explicitly includes family farmers regarding the rural properties where they reside and conduct productive activities.

The initiative resulted from work by the CPA's Land Regularization Institute, involving consultations with the Federal Council of Notaries, the Federal Council of Cadastre, and the Argentine Federation of Surveyors (FADA).
