Argentina corruption trial: Prosecution expects early conclusion
One year after the commencement of the Cuadernos corruption trial, the prosecution anticipates the proceedings may conclude sooner than originally estimated. Attorney General Fabiana León stated in an official report that the debate is moving at a sustained and favorable pace.
The trial, overseen by the Federal Oral Court 7, is considered the largest corruption case in Argentina in the last two decades. The prosecution alleges a bribery scheme operated through the Ministry of Federal Planning between 2003 and 2015. According to the accusations, companies allegedly paid cash amounts between 5% and 10% of advances and work certificates related to road contracts, transport concessions, public works, and energy subsidies.
Cristina Kirchner is at the center of the prosecution, accused of being the leader of an illicit association and facing 175 counts of passive bribery. More than 100 individuals, primarily businesspeople and former officials including Julio De Vido, Roberto Baratta, and José López, are also being judged. There are 208 witnesses remaining to testify in the process.
