Justiniano Montero elected President of Dominican Republic Supreme Court

The National Council of the Magistracy (CNM), led by President Luis Abinader, has unanimously appointed Magistrate Justiniano Montero Montero as the new President of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ). Montero, a career judge who has served on the Supreme Court since 2019, succeeds Luis Henry Molina, who decided not to seek a new term.

In addition to the presidency, the CNM selected six new justices to fill vacancies in the high court: Julio César Emilio Canó Alfau, Antonia Josefina Grullón Blandino, Amauri Antonio Pimentel Fabián, Arelis Socorro Ricourt Gómez, Diomede Ydelfo Villalona Guerrero, and Ylona María de la Rocha Camilo. The new appointments include three women. Diomede Ydelfo Villalona Guerrero was named the first substitute for the president, and Arelis Socorro Ricourt Gómez was named the second substitute.

The new magistrates are scheduled to be sworn in on Tuesday, November 10, at 9:00 AM at the National Palace, officially taking possession of their offices at the SCJ headquarters at 11:00 AM. The selection followed an evaluation process of 83 candidates. Business organizations, including CONEP and AIRD, expressed support for the appointments, noting the importance of judicial independence and legal certainty for the country's economic development.
