Néstor Pavón faces new trial for Micaela García femicide

A new judicial debate has commenced in Gualeguay, Entre Ríos, regarding the responsibility of Néstor Pavón in the 2017 femicide of Micaela García. Pavón, who previously served a five-year sentence for concealment, is now being tried as a suspected co-author of the sexual abuse and murder of the 21-year-old.

The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation ordered the re-examination of Pavón's participation following appeals by prosecutors and the victim's family. During the initial proceedings, the Tribunal rejected a defense request to exclude the testimony of Sebastián Wagner, who was convicted of life imprisonment for the crime.

The prosecution intends to demonstrate that Pavón acted in collaboration with Wagner. The victim's family, represented by lawyer Andrea Verónica Quaranta, is requesting the maximum penalty and emphasizes the need for the trial to be conducted with a gender perspective.
