Argentina court hearings focus on Lidia Ojeda and Maradona death cases

In a criminal hearing in Sáenz Peña, prosecutors opposed any release for medical practitioner Lidia Ojeda, labeling her defence tactics as “unusual.” The court rejected requests for preventive detention relief and home confinement. Ojeda faces three separate preventive imprisonments linked to the deaths of patient Lorenzo Blanco, a minor who lost a leg, and Germán Luque, while investigators say she may have treated over 1,200 patients. Further testimony from two former hospital directors is expected.

In a separate trial concerning former football star Diego Maradona’s death, his longtime lawyer Matías Morla testified for the first time. Morla described Maradona’s loneliness, the poor conditions of his home‑care facility in Tigre, and internal conflicts among his medical team, including allegations of jealousy involving former player Leopoldo Luque. The court scheduled the next hearing for the following Monday.
