Argentina court nullifies four UCR San Luis resolutions, hits minister Juan Álvarez Pinto
A federal court in San Luis, Argentina, ruled that four resolutions (Nos. 2‑5 of 2026) adopted by the Provincial Executive Committee of the Unión Cívica Radical (UCR) were void. Judge Juan Esteban Maqueda held that the committee lacked authority to modify the party’s charter or to alter the internal electoral calendar, actions that the court said violated the UCR’s organizational rules.
The decision also addressed the incompatibility of Juan Álvarez Pinto, who serves as provincial minister of Tourism and Culture while presiding over the party’s provincial committee. Citing article 138 of the UCR charter, the judge affirmed that executives of the provincial government cannot hold such party positions. The ruling reinstates the original charter provisions, restores the scheduled internal elections, and opens a July judicial window for appeals. Former national deputy José Luis Riccardo, who filed the suit, welcomed the judgment as a reaffirmation of democratic principles within the party.
