Argentina courts hand down prison sentences in sexual abuse and weapons‑possession cases

A court in the eastern zone of Buenos Aires Province sentenced a 20‑year‑old man to seven years in prison for repeated sexual abuse of his ex‑girlfriend, threats of death and violation of a restraining order. Judge María Victoria Franano found him guilty of sexual abuse with access to carnal, repeated twice, as well as coercive threats and disobedience to a judicial order.

In a separate case, a provincial court issued an express conviction for Yanina Alvarado – sister of footballer Esteban Alvarado – and her partner after they were caught with an unlawful civilian‑use firearm. Prosecutor David Carizza highlighted the use of flagrante delicto procedures, which allow rapid sentencing when evidence is clear and the accused admit the act.

Both judgments were delivered under Argentina’s legal framework aimed at speeding up the resolution of straightforward criminal matters.
