Neuquén, Argentina records two major sexual abuse convictions

A former police officer, Emilio Salim Abosalecha, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for three sexual abuse offences, including rape and attempted rape, after a popular jury found him guilty. The sentencing followed a trial that highlighted his pattern of abusing women he was acquainted with, including a former partner and a woman he drugged with ice cream.

In a separate case, a prominent Neuquén entrepreneur was convicted of continuous sexual abuse of his step‑daughter. The prosecution relied on five notebooks the victim had been forced to keep over 19 years, which detailed the abuse. The jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict, and the judge is expected to impose a lengthy prison term, potentially up to 35 years, reflecting the severity of the crimes and the manipulation involved.
