Operation Mondragón busts international cocaine trafficking network FAST-MOVING

A coordinated operation involving Spain’s Policía Nacional, the Guardia Civil and Europol dismantled a trans‑national cocaine trafficking network. The raid, dubbed Operation Mondragón, seized 21 tonnes of cocaine and roughly €1 million in cash. The group used a series of legitimate‑looking companies to mask shipments from South America to Europe. The logistical arm operated out of Ecuador, concentrating activities around the port of Guayaquil, while the Spanish faction handled façade firms and received containers at Malaga, Algeciras and Valencia. Albanian financiers based in Dubai supplied money, with alleged links to Dritan Gjika, who is subject to an international arrest warrant. The operation resulted in eight arrests in Spain (Alicante, Sevilla, Cádiz and La Rioja) and the capture of additional assets, including 18 properties and 39 bank accounts. In Ecuador, the initial participants have been sentenced to seven‑to‑ten years for organized crime.
