Argentina universities warn of severe 2027 budget funding crisis

Argentine universities and educational organizations are warning of a severe financial crisis due to the 2027 Budget proposal. Reports indicate that national investment in education and culture is projected to represent only 0.79% of GDP, a significant drop from the 1.42% recorded in 2023.

University authorities, including representatives from the National Interuniversity Council (CIN), report that the current funding levels fail to meet the requirements of the University Financing Law. There are growing concerns regarding the inability to provide necessary salary recompositions for teaching and administrative staff, as well as a drastic reduction in student scholarships and technical education funding.

Judicial intervention has also been noted, with courts ordering the national government to comply with precautionary measures regarding university financing. Institutions such as the National University of Entre Ríos (UNER) and the National University of Litoral (UNL) have called for these funding issues to be treated as a matter of state priority to prevent the deterioration of the national scientific and academic systems.
