Argentina targets US$10 billion in additional reserves before 2027

The Argentine government has announced a strategy to strengthen the country's external position by aiming to accumulate at least US$10,000 million in additional international reserves before the 2027 elections. Economic Secretary José Luis Daza stated that the Central Bank (BCRA) has already accumulated nearly US$14,000 million this year, surpassing initial targets. This accumulation is intended to provide financial stability and a buffer against market uncertainty during the upcoming electoral cycle.

In the local currency market, the official retail exchange rate has seen fluctuations, with recent reports placing it around $1,517.88. The 'card dollar' continues to carry a 30% surcharge for foreign transactions. Meanwhile, Argentina's country risk has remained elevated, recently exceeding 470 basis points.

Separately, the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic reported that it purchased US$415 million in foreign currency this year without conducting sales in the spot market. The authority clarified that the recent appreciation of the Dominican peso is driven by economic fundamentals, such as strong inflows from exports, tourism, and remittances, rather than direct market intervention.
