Argentina dairy sector sees record production amid producer inequality

Argentina is experiencing record-breaking milk production, yet a significant profitability gap is emerging between large and small producers. According to the Observatorio de la Cadena Láctea Argentina (OCLA), national production grew 4.9% between January and July. While large farms—representing 7% of units but 33.4% of volume—saw a 2.9% profit margin, small producers faced a 1.5% loss.

In Córdoba, a charitable initiative is utilizing the sector's output to support food security. A 1,000-kilogram cheese, the largest in Latin America, is being auctioned at the MECA 2026 event. Produced in Villa Nueva using 10,000 liters of donated milk, the auction proceeds will be used to purchase powdered milk for community kitchens and the provincial Food Bank.
