Argentina defeats Jordan 3-1 to top World Cup group
Argentina secured a 3-1 victory over Jordan in the final group match of the World Cup, finishing the stage with nine points and claiming first place in Group J. The game was played at Dallas' stadium.
Goals came early from Giovani Lo Celso (19'), followed by a penalty by Lautaro Martínez (31'). Jordan reduced the deficit in the second half, but Musab Al‑Tamari scored for Argentina in the 55th minute. Lionel Messi entered as a substitute and, from a free‑kick in the 80th minute, netted his sixth tournament goal, giving him a World Cup record of scoring in seven consecutive matches and the most goals ever scored from outside the penalty area.
The win completed Argentina’s perfect group record, while Jordan lost all three of its matches and was eliminated.
