Argentina dissolves National Children’s Chorus, launches federal arts program
The Argentine government officially dissolved the National Children’s Chorus, an institution founded in 1967 that had operated for nearly six decades. The action was taken through Decree 687/2026, published in the Official Bulletin and signed by President Javier Milei and Cabinet chief Diego Santilli.
The government said the existing legal framework was incompatible with the participation of minors in the public administration. It announced a replacement artistic formation program for children and adolescents, organized around two pillars – choral practice and dance training – and intended to broaden federal reach and create a national talent‑detection network.
Former director María Isabel Sanz criticized the move, arguing that the chorus’s specialized role could not be substituted by a training program and that the decision harmed the children involved. The National Polyphonic Chorus remains within the Secretariat of Culture structure.
