Argentina dollar rates fall as official and blue weaken in late July 2026
In late July 2026 Argentina’s official dollar price slipped to about 1.488 ARS per US$ in the wholesale market, its lowest level in more than a week, after falling roughly five units. The parallel or “blue” dollar traded near 1.565 ARS per US$, a slight decrease from the previous session. The spread between the official and blue rates widened to roughly 5 %, the biggest gap since December 2025.
The country's sovereign‑risk index, measured by JP Morgan, fell to 441 points on 30 July. The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) continued its dollar‑buying programme, acquiring US$117 million on 30 July, bringing July’s total purchases to US$2.116 billion and cumulative 2026 purchases to US$13.281 billion. Despite the buying, international reserves edged down to about US$49.0 billion.
Provincial governors announced a need for an additional US$1 billion in foreign currency before year‑end to meet bond‑repayment obligations. The official exchange‑rate band ceiling remained set at 1,843.63 ARS per US$.
