Argentina dollar drops to $1.48 as BCRA buys $117 million, risk premium falls to 441 points
On Thursday 30 July 2026 Argentina’s official wholesale dollar slipped to $1.488 per US dollar, its lowest level in more than a week and about 23.9 % below the band ceiling of $1.843.63. The informal “blue” dollar was quoted at $1.565, widening the spread with the official rate to roughly 5 %. ADRs of Argentine firms rose nearly 5 % on Wall Street.
The Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) purchased US $117 million in the official market, its biggest daily buy of the week and pushing total July purchases above US $2 billion. Cumulative foreign‑exchange acquisitions for 2026 now exceed US $13.2 billion, while international reserves stood at US $49.001 billion, a decline of US $199 million despite the buying spree.
JP Morgan’s Argentina Country‑Risk index fell 0.9 % to 441 points, reflecting a modest improvement in perceived sovereign risk amid global market volatility.
