Argentina economic crisis strains social organizations and volunteerism

Argentina's economic crisis is significantly impacting social organizations and community support networks. As the demand for food assistance in soup kitchens and snack centers rises, the availability of volunteers is declining. Gionas Borboy, founder of Red Alimendar, noted that this reduction is not due to a loss of solidarity, but because individuals are forced to take on multiple jobs to survive, leaving them with no extra time to volunteer.

This shortage of time and resources also affects organizational leaders, making it difficult to coordinate food rescues and community activities. In response, several entities including Red Alimendar, Cáritas, Techo, Cruz Roja, Rotaract, and Rotary have begun coordinating to share training, information, and financing alternatives to strengthen territorial work.

On a local level, community centers like Asociación Civil Ivana are struggling to meet demand. Despite providing hundreds of daily meals and snacks, the center faces waiting lists due to insufficient state funding and stagnant rations. The economic pressure has pushed many residents into subemployment, while social programs like Potenciar have seen participants lose their benefits, further straining the community's ability to sustain these essential services.
