Argentina economic updates: currency intervention and agribusiness shifts

Argentina's financial and agricultural sectors are seeing significant shifts. The Central Bank has intervened in the foreign exchange market using future placements and currency-linked bonds to moderate pressure on the official dollar, which has seen a slight contraction toward 1,515 pesos.

In the agribusiness sector, Ricardo Marra, president of the Bolsa de Cereales, noted progress regarding the reduction of export duties (retenciones), particularly for wheat, with projections for corn and soy. Marra also praised the elimination of the exchange rate gap, stating it has positively impacted the entire production chain. During meetings with Chief of Staff Diego Santilli, industry representatives also discussed biofuels legislation and the importance of protecting private property rights.

However, economic challenges persist. The Ministry of Economy recently deposited 4 trillion pesos into commercial banks to prevent liquidity restrictions and interest rate hikes. Meanwhile, the productive sector faces difficulties, such as Granja Tres Arroyos dismissing 250 workers due to avian flu and debt, and a high commercial vacancy rate of 14.5% in Córdoba.
