Argentina educators call for emotional education laws following child's death

Following the death of a 9-year-old boy in Comodoro Rivadavia, educators and specialists are calling for the urgent implementation of emotional education in schools. The incident, involving a child who fell from a seventh-floor apartment, has intensified demands for better psychological support and resources for students facing complex domestic or emotional situations.

Educators, including teacher Romina Saltiva, are advocating for the passage of the Emotional Education Law. The initiative, which has gathered over 13,000 signatures, aims to provide students with tools to recognize, express, and manage their emotions. Proponents argue that such training is essential for early detection of suffering and for reducing issues like violence, depression, and addiction.

Experts emphasize that effective emotional education requires more than just discourse; it necessitates specialized teacher training, consistent resources, and coordinated efforts between schools and families. Lucas Malaisi, president of the Emotional Education Foundation, notes that higher emotional intelligence can lead to lower symptomatic behaviors in youth.
