Argentina electricity bills surge across Buenos Aires province
Residents and institutions across the Buenos Aires province are reporting significant increases in electricity bills following changes to wholesale electricity prices and the Distribution Added Value (VAD). The price hikes, driven by national government adjustments, have impacted various districts including Pehuajó, Carlos Casares, Nueve de Julio, and Trenque Lauquen.
In Mar del Plata, the Teatro Tronador reported an electricity bill exceeding 13 million pesos, raising concerns about the sustainability of cultural and educational spaces that operate without subsidies. Similar complaints have emerged along the Atlantic Coast, with some residents in areas like Santa Teresita reporting bills as high as 800,000 pesos. These increases coincide with national economic deregulation policies and updated tariff schedules published by OCEBA for distributors such as EDEA.
