Argentina establishes Juvenile Criminal Regime Observatory

Argentina has established the Juvenile Criminal Regime Observatory (Observatorio RPJ) to coordinate national policies regarding juvenile delinquency. The initiative was formalized through a commitment act signed by the Council of Prosecutors, Prosecutors, Defenders and General Advisors of Argentina and the Federal Council of Criminal Policy.

Led by presidents Jorge Omar Canteros and Jorge Luis Miquelarena, the agreement was signed in the cities of Resistencia and Rawson. The observatory aims to address information disparities and regulatory fragmentation within the justice system by utilizing empirical evidence to guide state responses.

Modeled after the Gender Violence Observatory (OVG), the new entity is designed to function as a long-term public policy. Its organizational structure includes a Specialized Directorate, which is projected to begin operations in the first quarter of 2027, and an Internal Advisory Body. Provinces will be invited to appoint technical and legal representatives to ensure a coordinated federal approach.
