Argentina evaluates regional representation for Central Bank board

The Argentine government is evaluating a proposal from provincial governors to include regional representation within the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA). This move is being considered as a political concession to secure the necessary votes in the Chamber of Deputies to pass reforms to the entity's Organic Charter.

Governors, particularly from the Norte Grande region, are advocating for a more federalized leadership structure. They have requested that at least three of the eight directors possess economic and political experience outside of the City of Buenos Aires to better reflect the productive and financial realities of the provinces.

The administration is using these institutional changes as a negotiation tool to build legislative support for other key objectives, including the elimination of the PASO primary elections. The government aims to strengthen its political standing following recent setbacks in the Senate and seeks to maintain agreements with provincial leaders and dialogic blocs ahead of upcoming legislative sessions.
