Argentina expands vaccination drives and mobile health services as respiratory illnesses wane

Health authorities in Argentina reported 77,008 pneumonia cases and 56,299 bronchiolitis cases in children under two up to epidemiological week 26 of 2026, a level within expected ranges and slightly lower than previous years. Influenza positivity remained at 33.6% while the Respiratory Syncytial Virus showed a modest rise.

Multiple vaccination campaigns are underway. In Santa Fe, an itinerant program targets seniors, people with risk factors, pregnant women and infants with flu, pneumonia and RSV vaccines, aiming for 70 % coverage among those over 65. PAMI continues free flu shots for seniors, pregnant women, children 6‑24 months and at‑risk adults. The Rotary Club in Zárate promotes child immunization, and the Ministry of Health in Tucumán operates the “AutoVac” clinic offering free flu and routine vaccines to all residents.

Mobile health units are extending services to neighbourhoods. The municipal “Salud en tu Barrio” team in Mar del Plata and the Hospital Móvil in Almafuerte, Tucumán, provide on‑site vaccinations, dental, ophthalmology, obstetric and chronic‑disease care, reaching 80‑100 patients daily. Córdoba’s “Mejor es Saber” campaign offers free, confidential HIV and syphilis testing across community centres.

Collectively, these initiatives aim to boost immunisation coverage and early detection of diseases ahead of the winter season, while surveillance data show a gradual declining trend in severe respiratory infections.
