Argentina expands primary health centers to ease hospital emergencies

The Ministry of Public Health of Corrientes urged residents to use the network of Centros de Atención Primaria de la Salud (CAPS) as the first point of medical contact, highlighting that the province operates more than 170 CAPS, including 17 in the capital city. By directing routine and low‑complexity cases to these neighbourhood centres, the ministry aims to keep hospital emergency wards free for critical patients.

In Buenos Aires Province, Governor Axel Kicillof inaugurated the new CAPS “Coronel Manuel Dorrego” in Luján. The $2.259 billion facility includes six consultorios, a vaccination unit, pharmacy, and services such as diabetology, obstetrics, psychology, dentistry and imaging. The opening was attended by Health Minister Nicolás Kreplak, Infrastructure Minister Gabriel Katopodis and Mayor Leonardo Boto, who emphasized the project as part of a broader effort that has already seen 210 CAPS built in the province. Both initiatives stress community‑based care and prevention to improve overall health system efficiency.
