Argentina expands San Juan primary health centre and sees rise in digital medical appointments

Governor Marcelo Orrego inaugurated the expanded and remodelled Dr. Jorge R. Ruiz Aguilar primary health centre (CAPS) in Chimbas, San Juan Province. The renovation doubled the number of consult rooms from two to four, increased staff from 14 to 25 and added services such as family medicine, cardiology, obstetrics, dentistry, psychology and expanded nursing and administrative support. The building area grew from 137 to 210 square metres, fully funded by provincial resources, aiming to improve access and reduce wait times for local families.

In parallel, the Ministry of Health reported that its PacienteTDF online platform scheduled 1,850 medical appointments in May, a 4.5% increase over April and the highest monthly total since the system launched. Cumulative appointments from January to May reached 7,786, though about a quarter of scheduled slots were missed, highlighting ongoing challenges in appointment utilisation.
