Argentina expands vaccination drives for hepatitis A and hemorrhagic fever

Argentina confirmed 34 new cases of hepatitis A, bringing the country into an alert zone. The cases are concentrated in the Greater Buenos Aires area and several provinces, with 75% of patients aged 20‑39, most of them men. The outbreak shows mixed transmission, including travel‑related and local chains, and highlights gaps in adult vaccination coverage, which reached only about 21% of the target by late April.

In response, health authorities have intensified vaccination efforts. The national program has distributed 44% of the planned vaccine doses for 2026 and targeted specific towns such as Embarcación in Salta. Meanwhile, the municipality of Olavarría in Buenos Aires Province is conducting a rural campaign against Argentine Hemorrhagic Fever (FHA), vaccinating residents aged 15‑65 in the communities of Santa Luisa and Durañona. The campaign includes an informational session on symptoms, risk factors, and preventive measures, and follows strict eligibility criteria.
