Brazil trade surplus hits US$ 7.4 billion in August
Brazil recorded a trade surplus of US$ 7.4 billion in August, a 23.8% increase compared to the same month in 2025. This growth was driven by a 12.2% rise in total exports, reaching US$ 33.2 billion, led by the extractive, manufacturing, and agribusiness sectors. Key commodities contributing to this performance included crude oil, soy, copper, and coffee.
In the United States market, Brazilian exports rose 12.1% to US$ 3.19 billion, supported by an 8.6% increase in average product prices, even as export volumes fell by 3.1%. Notable products included aircraft, beef, and steel products, some of which were exempt from new US tariffs.
Conversely, beef exports saw a significant decline, with volumes dropping 27.1% and value falling 19.7% to US$ 1.2 billion. This contraction is primarily attributed to China reaching its import quota of 1.106 million tons, beyond which a 55% additional tax is applied. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump identified Brazil and Argentina as primary potential suppliers to increase the American beef supply through temporary quotas.
